A little about Hampton…
An old village situated in the Borough of Richmond, on the north bank of the River Thames, Hampton has a relatively modest population of 20,000 and enough green spaces to make the place feel extremely rural. The world famous Hampton Court is an attraction which brings tourists all over the globe to this quiet part of England.
Many of the residents of Hampton commute to Central London, however the local community employs many people in the education, health and social work fields, as well as in transport and retail. At the weekends many people can be found wandering on the riverbank above Molesey Lock and enjoying the decorative buildings of Garrick’s House and the Temple to Shakespeare.
Non-league football club Hampton & Richmond Borough F.C. are joined by many rugby clubs, including Twickenham RFC and London Harlequins. Interestingly, the area is also featured in two Charles Dicken’s novels, Oliver Twist and Nicholas Nickleby, as well as T S Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.
