Interestingly, during World War II, Oxshott was the location of Canadian Army engineers who were billeted on Oxshott Heath whilst they were charged with building the Cabinet War Rooms. However, the area is most famous for Oxshott Heath and Woods, a 200 acre area of common land which is home to a diverse wildlife. At the weekend, the woods are teeming with local residents, enjoying the rich fresh air.

A little about Shepperton…

In the borough of Spelthorne, Shepperton is only 15 milles from Charing Cross, London, and has extremely historical roots. It was first mentioned in 959 CE in the Domesday Book as an agricultural village, but by the 19thCentury it has become a notable literary town with famous writers and poets such as Peacock and Haggard basing themselves within its borders. Today it’s home to 10,000 residents, with this expansion from small beginnings, a direct result of the completion of the railway line to London.

Now part of The Pinewood Studios Group, Shepperton Studios began in 1931 and has been the home of many notable productions ever since. From Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange in 1971 to Attenborough’s Gandhi a decade later, these studios have housed some of the most prestigious actors, actresses and directors in the country. Now the studios exist as a small part of a wider Pinewood Studios Group, encompassing film production in far flung places such as Canada and the Dominican Republic.
