A little about Staines…
Staines, formally known as Staines-upon-Thames, is a town on the River Thames, in the borough of Surrey. Its name-change is actually a recent occurrence, on taking place in May 2012. Although part of Surrey, the area is within the M25 and the London Commuter Belt. A large number of parks, leisure centres and a lower-league football club provide plenty of recreational entertainment for the town’s small population.
Although something little known about Staines, interestingly, between 1642 and 1648 during the Civil War, skirmishes took place on Staines Moor and numerous troops moved across Staines Bridge. Some of the town’s oldest, listing buildings are beautiful and can be found on the opposite side of the river. W.H.
