A little about Woking…
Located in the heart of Surrey, Woking is part of the London commuter belt with frequent trains leaving from Waterloo station and arriving in Woking, less than half an hour later. Woking is undoubtedly a multicultural town, with people settling here from all over the world, notably from countries such as Italy, India and Pakistan. The town can claim to be home to the first mosque in the United Kingdom, built in 1889 by Gottlieb Wilhelm Leitner.
This area also has historic ties to World War One, when the Martinsyde aircraft company built thousands of aircraft and tested their flying and deliveries in nearby Brooklands Aerodrome. Following the end of the war, this closed in the mid-1920s and many years later was replaced by engineering firm James Walker & Company, named ‘The Lion Works’. Today the area has been redeveloped and is a large retail park, providing Woking with an array of shopping options.
