After a ten-year sabbatical, Surrey’s favourite music event Guilfest returns with a bang. The headlining acts, The Stranglers and Sam Ryder, lead a diverse array of the best local acts and tomorrow’s stars, with two days of sun, tunes, and possibly a few refreshments on offer.

The Cheese & Chili Festival – 20th – 21st July

We have the perfect event for foodies with a strong inclination for cheese and chilli. It’s time to whet your appetite and book your spot in this year’s Cheese and Chilli Festival in Guildford (in addition to some Gaviscon!).

Hop Harvest Festival – 12th September 2024

In addition to excellent servings of drinks and grub, live music will entertain you for one final summertime showdown. Find out more about the Hop Harvest here.

Main Attractions and Days Out in Surrey

History Buffs

Surrey is a treasure trove of historical places to visit. Hatchlands Park, for instance, is the site of a Georgian mansion built in the 1750s, now showcasing art and furniture from the period. For spectacular views of the Surrey countryside, head to Polesden Lacy National Trust property, an Edwardian site perfect for country walks or relaxing in the summer sun. And then there’s Hampton Court Palace, a gateway to the bygone Tudor era, complete with a maze, family trails, and costumed guided tours.

High-Octane Treats

Surrey is the right place for those who like adrenaline. We have two of the most popular theme parks in the UK: Thorpe Park in Chertsey and Chessington World of Adventures (also a zoo). Surrey also has many National Trust sites and museums, working farms, and outdoor adventure places to visit, such as Wild Wood Adventure in Guildford.

Watts Gallery Artists Village

One of Surrey’s hidden treasures is the Watts Gallery near Guildford. Not only is it a beautiful gallery, but the Artists’ Village is also a place of learning and education within beautiful grounds. George and Mary Watts’s home and creative forge, the gallery, and the Chapel are a source of rich inspiration and testament to their creativity.

The paintings of Evelyn De Morgan are resident there.   George Watts was considered the greatest painter of the Victorian era. A portraitist, sculptor, landscape painter, and symbolist, Watts’s work embodied the most pressing themes and ideas of the time, earning him the title of England’s Michelangelo.

Catch the end of the Pre-Raphaelite exhibition, Pre-Raphaelite treasures, drawings, and watercolours, and enjoy the grounds and teashop one summer’s day.

Leith Hill, Dorking

If you want to see Surrey’s beauty, head to Leith Hill in Dorking. Leith Hill is the highest point in the southeast of England, and the views from its gothic tower stretch out to London and the English Channel. It’s one place you must experience in person to understand why people rave about it. You won’t find a better scenic view than Leigh Hill, and it has plenty of intriguing history to learn about.

Finding Surrey’s Top Ten Picnic Spots

Nothing is more quintessentially English than a breezy summer picnic. Surrey has many beautiful places to pitch up and let the day flow in a relaxed family setting. Here are ten suggestions for a day of relaxed exploration and conversation. To get the most out of your day, research Surrey’s parks and gardens.

  1. Claremont Landscaped Garden.
  2. Painshill.
  3. Gostrey Meadow.
  4. Abinger Hammer Green.
  5. Frensham Ponds.
  6. Box Hill.
  7. Bushy Park.
  8. Polesden Lacy.
  9. Reigate Hill.
  10. Virginia Water.

Best B&Bs and Hotels for Visitors

You’ll need somewhere to rest unless you’re nipping into Surrey for a day visit. Luckily, you can choose from a plethora of B&Bs, hotels and Airbnb locations throughout the county. Whether you prefer a no-frills lodge or cottage experience, you’ll find something to match your tastes and budget.

We suggest using verified sites like Tripadvisor and Booking.com for verified hoteliers and hosts. Try to book early to avoid higher prices closer to your visit.

Surrey’s Highest-Rated Pubs and Restaurants

Finding your favourite place to grab a bite to eat and drink is the best place to grab a bite to eat and drink, especially if you’re in Surrey for a few days. Fortunately, you won’t have to look far – we have some of the finest eateries and pubs in the UK.

Removal and Storage for Incoming Residents

If you’re visiting Surrey while planning an upcoming relocation, it’s a good idea to book your removal service within three months of your move. Working with a reputable moving company allows you to choose from more removal packages and offers a higher quality standard.

Seek at least three separate quotes from prospective movers – these should be free and without any hassle to sign up. Always double-check for hidden fees or potential costs outside of the quote. Check each company’s testimonials and Google ratings for a better idea of professionalism and quality.

At WH Cox & Son, we’re confident we have everything you need for a successful relocation to Surrey. Don’t worry if you’re unsure which removal or storage package to choose—we’ll assess your needs and guide you through the process.

WH Cox & Son – We’re Surrey’s Favourite Movers

WH Cox & Son is a family-run business relocating people for over forty years. In that time, we’ve gained a loyal base of customers who always return to use our services. One of our proudest moments is when we receive a new client by referral – our number one goal is to provide the best service possible.

WH Cox covers the whole of Surrey and Middlesex, and we do many removals for people moving from London. Because we’re situated outside of London, we can offer the same level of service you’d receive from a London-based company but at much lower rates. WH Cox’s team has extensive knowledge of the areas we cover, and we plan each detail with our customers to ensure we fit around their schedules.

WH Cox & Son has earned its reputation for being Surrey’s favourite moving company through our hard work and dedication to our customers. Contact us today to discuss your relocation or storage requirements.
