Ask people in your local area for recommendations and always, always check a companies testimonials and reviews. If they have great customer service, they won’t be afraid to shout about it on their website. Remember to check for recent reviews!
Just like anything you purchase online, make sure you compare prices across the web. Every decent company should be able to provide a quote for no extra fee.
The next step would be to have a consultant provide a solid estimate in person.
Moving house is never a straightforward process (there’s a reason people say it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do!) Be prepared to pay more than you expect and we encourage you to record all of your items in a spreadsheet.
Just to be on the safe side, we highly recommend requesting to see the companies license details before they move your prized possession to the other side of the country. And give yourself plenty of time by booking in advance.
Many removal companies provide insurance but you can easily find a decent quote online if not. Before you move any further forward, we recommend finding out if the company can move on your preferred day. They may close on a Sunday, so it’s best to find out now rather than when it’s too late!
Depending on whether you live on a narrow country lane, or somewhere with ample parking, it’s important to inform the movers if there’s going to be any difficulties on moving day.
Also, if you’d rather save hours of packing you can always enquire to see if your chosen company includes this within their service, or for a small additional fee.
Double check how they prefer payment to be sure there are no surprises further down the line. And, as for any service, find out about their cancellation policy, just in case something unavoidable appears in your calendar.
A good removal company will always supply boxes, so you shouldn’t have to worry about this. As well as an Inventory List to ensure all of your belongings arrive at your new home.
If you feel the price is a little high, why not haggle the price down to something more reasonable?
When everything has been agreed, the last thing to do is to check the contract for any hidden costs and if you have any questions, now is the time to ask them!
If you’ve ticked off all of the tasks on the checklist below, you’re ready to sign!
