Interestingly, during World War II, Oxshott was the location of Canadian Army engineers who were billeted on Oxshott Heath whilst they were charged with building the Cabinet War Rooms. However, the area is most famous for Oxshott Heath and Woods, a 200 acre area of common land which is home to a diverse wildlife. At the weekend, the woods are teeming with local residents, enjoying the rich fresh air.
A little about Sutton…
Located in South West London, Sutton is just over 10 miles from Charing Cross, and grew as a result of its location on the trading route between Brighton and the capital. Modern day Sutton has a theatre, many large international companies and a buzzing shopping centre. Crime is very low and the area is well known for its excellent education facilities, the borough one of the top performing authorities for education in the entire country.
Sutton United Football Club plies their trade in the Conference South but has enjoyed several minor cup successes. Twice they have gone all the way to Wembley in the FA Amateur Cup, as well as reaching the final of the FA Trophy here. Most famous of all though, is the Third Round defeat of Coventry City in 1989, one of the splattering of times a non-league side has beaten a team from the top flight of English football.
